When choosing a long haul flight, whether it is to the USA or flights to Alice Springs, price might be your primary criteria. However, it also pays to check out the facilities on board as it might well be worth paying just a little extra to get a better service, which after all, is crucial on such a long flight.
I am not talking about upgrading to business or first class, although that would be nice! I am talking about picking one of those airlines which offer better value for money, but which are not necessarily the cheapest.
Compare the seat pitches across the airlines serving your destination as this is one of the most important points on any long haul journey – you will find that some airlines are far more generous in their seat pitches than others which can save a lot of stiffness if you have long legs. You can also request an emergency exit seat for more room although you are not guaranteed to get one.
Then there are meals as some airlines are known for their fine dining even in economy while others are more known for the muck they serve up even in business class.
Then there is entertainment – some of the airlines still have a central TV mounted on the ceiling, while others have their individual sets in the seat.
