Moving to Spain?

There are many reasons that people move abroad. For some, it is because of a work relocation, for others it may be to start a new life, and for still others it may be to retire. However, before making the big move, there are some important questions to be answered.

Firstly, what do you actually know about the country? Taking Spain as our example for this article, just because you have had some pleasant two week holidays there does not mean that you really got to know the country that well. You may need to do a lot more research.

Secondly, should you sell up completely in the United Kingdom and move out there in one big step? This is up to the individual to answer, but perhaps it might be advisable to rent a property there first. Taking on one of the many long term villa rentals there will give you the chance to get to know the country and its people, but whilst also having your property back in the UK as security.

Another question to be answered is one of finances. Should you convert all your money into Euros in one go or not? Again, this is a difficult one to answer. Some people hold more than one currency in different banks, whilst others just decide that if they are moving, then they are moving. It must be said though, that right now, the currency markets are looking pretty turbulent.

As you can see, there are many things to think about when moving overseas and we have barely scratched the surface here. Whatever happens though, enjoy yourself!
